Romance is alive and well

A while ago there was a ring at the doorbell - I thought it was the nurse to dress John's foot - and there was a delivery lady with a bouquet of roses for Valentine's day:

I could be cynical and say 'what an expense!', but instead I'm thankful that I have a husband who still arranges surprises, although I suppose it's not too much of a surprise because this is the 20th Valentine bouquet I've had. Not that such gestures are confined to Valentine's day.

  1. Beautiful Hazel, it's so nice to be appreciated.
All the more special that he still managed to arrange it for you after all he's been through recently.

  7. You've been busy again - just had a nice browse through all your crafty makes - good luck with switching from Christmas to Easter cards! How lovely to have a bouquet delivered (and even nicer when you think it's going to be a nurse on the other side of the door!)

  11. Enjoy! (And hang the expense ... )

I, like my dad, am a bit of a bah humbug with Valentines (he thought it was propagated by the Americans for commercial ends).

I'm sure John will have loved to have an opportunity to show you what you mean to him and spoil you a bit - you deserve it! And even if I tend to agree with my dad, who was a romantic any other time of the year, if it gives someone an opportunity to express their love for someone special that has to be a good thing.

I sent my mother a card "for someone special" following the American custom of sending them to anyone special, not just the romance in your life. I'd made it ages ago and wanted it to be appreciated and she is getting a bit down at the moment, so I reminded her how many people there were who thought she was special and celebrated her recent birthday.

It meant a lot to her, apparently.
