Craftyhazelnut's Christmas challenge extra for April

It's hard to believe that three months of the year have gone already. I know that some crafters think it's far too early to think about making Christmas cards, but there are others that feel that it does make perfect sense - so much so that there were 278 entries for my CHNC challenge extra for March. So, if you haven't yet joined in, now is perhaps the time to do so - CHNC challenge extra for April - just click on the link to participate and also see the wonderful creations by the rest of the team.

For my design card for CHNC challenge extra for April I used Chubby Snowman Scarf kindly supplied by Bugaboo Stamps, sponsor of the challenge. I coloured the image digitially in Paint and used card from my Christmas offcuts box, a stray sentiment circle (there is gold foiling on this, not black as it looks in the photo), some prima spacers and three little gems.

I followed the sketch given for Sketch and Stash 136:

Craftyhazelnut's Patterned Paper April challenge

I was so overwhelmed by the number of entries for my Patterned Paper March challenge - over 600 - no, that isn't an April fool! If you haven't yet discovered this challenge blog that I started at the beginning of the year, please click here for the April challenge and join in. The monthly challenge will always be 'anything goes' as long as you cover your card blank or other creation with patterned paper or card, using any size or shape that you wish - there are no other rules! You can add embellishments if you wish, stamp, emboss etc - but you must cover your card blank with patterned paper or card. The creation can be for any occasion.

You can leave a small border around your paper when you adhere it to the card blank if you wish, but only a small border! And your creation doesn't have to be a card, it can be any project as long as it is covered with patterned paper.

For the beginning of the April challenge I've made two quick cards using Hunkydory patterned card and Kanban bottles and glasses.

The bottles and glasses stickers have a holographic look with colours that change according to the light. It was difficult to get photos, so I had to tilt the camera:

This is the second card - there is hardly any light shining on the bottle and glass here:

But here you can see the holographic bling look of the bottle:

Guest designer for Lexi Creations 113: Easter

I'm privileged today to be a guest designer for Lexi Creations 113: Easter.

I used their 'Easter egg Lillie' digital image (available here), colouring with spectrum noir pens. The main background paper was a magazine freebie from last year or the year before and the strip across the bottom was from PDA card and craft, wrapped round with a piece of sentiment ribbon on Poundland.

I tore round the image usingperspex oval templates, inking the torn edges with a spectrum. The glittered eggs were from Poundland.

Cheerful stamp pad challenge 83: add some flowers

It's time for a new Cheerful stamp pad challenge and the theme for this fortnight is 'add some flowers'. The challenge is being sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps. Please click here to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and also to add your entries.

For my design card I used  'bug jar caterpillar' by Bugaboo Stamps', colouring digitally in Paint and adding the text. The background was created with some patterned paper and acrylic paint and stencils using my gelli plate. There are strips of washi tape and ribbon down the side, although most of this is covered by the Craftime flowers.

The Glory of Christmas challenge 30: peace on earth

It's time for the Glory of Christmas challenge 30: peace on earth. Please click on the link to see the lovely crafting of others in the team and, hopefully, join in with the challenge.

For my card I used offcuts of some unknown papers that have been lurking in my Christmas box (think I got them with a magazine). The glittered angels look much more glittery in real life as does the gold star that has been layered on to the blue foiled star. The piece of ribbon is from Hobbycraft. The Personal Impressions stamp is a favourite of mine.

Owl button it for Christmas

The theme for the Christmas Card Club challenge for this fortnight is 'cute Christmas' so I have used some owls from Poundland with offcuts of card found in my Christmas box, a couple of stray sentiments and the remainder of My Mind's Eye 'all is bright' buttons from the pack that I opened the other day.

CHNC challenge 170: going round in circles

I sometimes feel that I'm going round in circles ... but today I have a good reason for that because that's the theme for CHNC challenge 170 - to use circles - any circles, large or small, including round brads, buttons ... anything round. Please click on the link and join in the challenge.

For my card I used an offcut of Bo Bunny paper that's been lurking in my Christmas scraps box for ages (I think I spied another piece that might get used soon). The topper is from Hunkydory, the buttons are 'all is bright' by My Mind's Eye - and I added a couple of circular sentiments for good measure.

It's supposed to be spring here now, but it's actually colder than it has been a week or two ago. Hopefully, it will perk up again soon. It's lovely to see all the spring flowers and blossoms. It's springtime for Suzy Bee's Blooomin' challenge 22: spring flowers- please click on the link and see the lovely designs by the rest of the team and join in with our challenge, which is being sponsored by Paper Pretties who kindly supplied the 'tea rose' image that I've used for my design card. I coloured it with spectrum noir pens. Papers are My mind's eye quite contrary summer papers. The panel down the left is made up of three different papers layered up.

One of our lovely teamies, Erin chose the theme of 'spring flowers'.

As always, Completely Christmas challenge 5 is 'anything goes' - please click on the link to see the lovely designs of the rest of the team ... and please get that Christmas stash out, get creating and join in (and please don't forget my CHNC challenges as well).

The challenge is being sponsored by Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet and for my design card I have used two of Panda Bear Designs Papers and the Crafty Girls Baubles image. I changed the colour of the baubles digitally and layered on to the two papers, taking them down to a square size, adding the text. Everything was created digitally.

The sweet pea stampers: distress to the max

It's time for another challenge on the Sweet pea stampers blog: distress to the max - please click here to see the wonderful crafting of the rest of the team and we would love to see you take part in our challenge.

For my design card I used a digital image by Karen Middleton called 'butterfly yellow'. I used a variety of grey spectrum noir pens to colour the image, tore round it and brushed first with squeezed lemonade distress ink and then mustard seed. I then spritzed the whole image so that it looked more distressed. The background card is from the everyday collection of Core Impressions by Jenni Bowlin by Core-dinations sanded to reveal the yellow core. The strip of script paper is from 'fair skies' by Farm House paper company, again torn and inked, with a piece of Tim Holtz tissue tape down the middle. The flowers were from Hobbycraft and I brushed them with mustard seed DI.

This is my design card for week 2 of the Cheerful stamp pad challenge 82: Modes of transportation. Please click here to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and click here to join in with your entries - we'd love to see them there.

The sponsor for this challenge is Lunagirl. I used Transportation (7) image kindly supplied by Lunagirl, giving it an antique look digitally before layering it on to some unknown paper that I've had in my stash for a while. I've added bits and pieces from various sources, including Teresa Collins and K & Co. I enjoyed putting this card together.

Mother's Day card for Lily

Last week I made a mother's day card for Hyacinth for a friend to give to her mother. She then asked me to make a similar card for her mother-in-law - her name is Lily. Two floral mother's day cards.

I found a copyright picture of a lily, added the sentiment and faded the edges digitally before printing and mounting on to the green mirror card with the two ribbons down the side.

I used a quickie glue pen to highlight parts of the main lily and sprinkled first pink, then yellow, then black to the various parts of the flower, using Art Institute glitters (I've had these little pots for years - such good value because they have been used time and time again).

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

It's time for Suzy Bee's Bloomin' challenge 21: white on white. Please click on the challenge link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and it would be lovely if you could join in the challenge with us.

For my design card I used the 'Happy Easter doodle' image, kindly supplied by the sponsor, Limited runs. This was already coloured, but I digitally faded it to fit in with the 'white on white', although my torn surround card has a gold tinge to it, so I'm cheating a bit - but it is white card really, but with a gold sheen! I matted the torn ovals on to a piece of embossed white pearlescent card using part of the lovely Craftwell 'swirltangle' embossing folder. Everything was then matted on to a pearlescent white card blank with some much neglected white fibres tied around the fold.

How come it's Saturday again so soon? That means it's time for CHNC challenge 169: all wrapped up. Please click on the link to see what it's all about and join in with your own entries.

I based my card on the sketch given for Mojo Monday 337:

For my card I used  'snowman's gifts' kindly supplied by one of the sponsors, Crafty sentiments - featuring 'all wrapped up' in two ways - the snowman and the gift - colouring the image with spectrum noir pens. All papers were from my Christmas offcuts box.

For my design card I used 'pinecone and needles' which was kindly supplied by the sponsor of the challenge, Sparkle n sprinkle. I used the image one way up and then another, joining them digitally. I coloured with spectrum noir pens.

The image was first die cut with a Nestie then matted on to a stamped oval with Briliance pearlescent ivy, matted on to another oval cut out with Fiskars deckle scissors and which was then matted on to a torn oval using a piece of Core'dination card, revealing the lighter green.

I usedKeisercraft background paper, a piece of striped scrap of My Mind's Eye Lost & Found, buttons, sentiments etc from MME 'all is bright'.

Hope you have a purrfect day ...

Obviously this card had to have some cats on it - an image kindly given by AAA cards who will be starting challenges in May. They are wanting CAS or nearly clean cards, so I think this fits the bill, so this is for their open call.

I've coloured the front cat with a couple of grey spectrum noir pens and the 'ginger' one with another pen. I thought I'd leave the other cat white.

I've mounted the image on to a piece of copper coloured mirror card that matches the 'ginger'. This is then mounted on to a 7 x 5 black card blank.

As there is mirror card involved it was hard to get a photo showing it - this is the best I could do:

Please click on the challenge link to see the lovely crafting of the rest of the team and to take part in the challenge which lasts for almost two weeks.

For my design creation I used Lunagirl's transportion (3), kindly supplied by the sponsor of this challenge, digitally changing to black and white and just digitally colouring the hat and flowers. I faded the edges of the picture and digitally mounted it on to the free Lunagirl postcard digital image. I added the digital postage stamp and the wording, including the fictional name and address, although Truelove is a real village in Devon apparently.

40th birthday card

My stepson was 40 the other day - this is the card that I made for him using a Docrafts candles stamp (it is a long stamp with 25 candles on it, so I stamped twice and cute 5 off each image). I can't remember where I got the text card from, but I've got lots of it in different colours. The piece on the shape at the top was in my offcuts box - I used another piece to print our message on the inside of the easel strut.I coloured the candles with spectrum noir pens and promarkers.

Crafting musketeers March challenge 11: art deco

This is my design card for team B's inspiration for Crafting Musketeers art deco challenge. You can join in the challenge here - we would love to see your art deco crafting. This challenge is being sponsored by Debbi Moore and I have used a background paper download and the images. The image on the front has been printed three times and decoupaged. The gold mirror card matting looks so much better in real life, as does the gold sentiment circle.

I made this for my stepson's girl friend and I think she liked it.

This is an A5 landscape card used as an upright tent card. And I used another image inside the card and wrote on the upper inside.

Glory of Christmas challenge 29: cocoa, hot drink

When I knew what challenge 29 was going to be for the Glory of Christmas, I remembered that ages ago I had made a tag using Meljen's 'Christmas cocoa' image. I hunted through all of my Christmas stash ... and I couldn't find it, but I had the image saved on computer, so I printed it, cut round it, mounted on to an offcut of spotty Hunkydory card and then matted on to another piece of Hunkydory card with the lamp post image, adding lots of silver snowflakes and the sentiment.

Please click here to see the crafting of the rest of the team and to join in our challenge - we'd love to see you there.

While I was looking for the Hunkydory card with the lamp post, something suddenly felt out from between two other pieces of card (I had looked right through that box earlier) and it was, of course, the tag that I had made ages ago, so I decided I would make a second design card for the Glory of Christmas challenge 29. This time the background card  is an old Kanban offcut. I used a couple of scraps of Hunkydory and papermania papers to form the border near the bottom. The background of the tag had been stamped randomly with snowflakes using stazon cactus green and the torn edges of the image had been brushed with chalk. The clumps of berries are from a Kaisercraft turtle dove pack of various elements.

Christmas angels

It was Christine's turn to choose the theme for the Christmas Card Club challenge for this fortnight and she said she would like to see wings. So I've used two lovely glittered stickers raised up with 3D foam mounted on to a piece of Hunkydory card. The ribbon with bow is one that I rescued from someone - it might have been a box of chocolates, I can't remember, but it is definitely recycled. The sentiment is one that got left over from an old Kanban kit.

The photo has made the right hand side of the card look lighter than it actually is, but it's the best I could do.

Mother's day card for Hyacinth

I was asked to make a card for a mum with the name Hyacinth (love that), so I found a copyright free picture of hyacinths on the internet and played around a bit digitally till I got the effect I wanted and added the text. I then printed stuck the pieces of ribbon down the side, matted and layered on to a piece of lilac/blue mirror card and than a piece of pearlescent card before matting on to the very light lilac card blank.

This is loosely (I hope not too loosely) based on the sketch for Cardabilities 95 (flipping it horizontally):

Sadly, the mirror card looks darker here than it is irl.
